The goal appears in the strategy document, the monthly presentation and the team meeting. Yet the people handling a delayed order still face the same unresolved questions: who decides, what information is needed, and when should the customer hear from us?

The strategy describes a direction. The operating design must translate that direction into the decisions and routines people encounter in their working day.

Connect a goal to an operating result

Begin with a result narrow enough to manage. For a hypothetical retailer, that might be a complete, timely handoff from sale to fulfilment. Define what complete means, when the handoff is due and which record shows whether it happened.

Then name the outcome owner. Supporting roles can be distributed across teams, while responsibility for the final result remains explicit. That owner needs sufficient authority to resolve the common exceptions, plus a clear route for decisions beyond their remit.

Build the connecting layer

A usable operating design makes a small set of relationships visible.

Outcome and evidence: what changes and how we know.

Ownership and support: who is accountable and who contributes.

Decision rights: what the owner can decide and when to escalate.

Workflow and information: how the next person receives complete work.

Review rhythm: when evidence turns into a management decision.

Make the review consequential

A review meeting needs a decision to make. If incomplete handoffs recur, the group should examine the pattern, identify a cause worth testing and agree an action with an owner and review date. The next meeting should inspect that action and its evidence.

A 90-day roadmap can organise this transition: establish the baseline, pilot one operating rule, review exceptions and extend the tested design. Progress becomes visible through working decisions and routines that remain useful between management meetings.

Choose one strategic priority and trace it all the way to an owner, a daily decision, a reliable record and a review gate.

A strategy becomes usable when choices are translated into ownership, decisions and a rhythm of work.

[1

post-10","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
